Safety at Conversetta
Conversetta is a practice app for everyday conversations. It is not therapy, a crisis service or a replacement for professional care. Because people sometimes share hard things while practising, the app watches for signs that someone may need more support than practice can give, and points them to people who can help.
If you might be in danger now, call your local emergency number. Helplines for your region are listed below.
How we notice
- Every message you write or say in a practice scene, to the coach, in a mission debrief or in a reflection is checked before the AI replies.
- Two layers do the checking: fixed rules that catch clear statements even when the AI is unavailable, and an AI safety review that also looks for indirect or joking signs.
- If the AI safety review cannot run, the AI character does not reply; the app switches to scripted practice instead of carrying on unchecked.
- Check-in answers are never sent to an AI. Very low answers show a support card with the same resources.
- Signs that someone may be under 18 end AI practice: the app is for adults.
What the app does
| Everyday stress | Practice continues. The coach may check in kindly afterwards. |
|---|---|
| Signs of distress | The scene stops and Support mode opens: a calm message that an AI practice coach cannot give the support you deserve, with helplines one tap away. |
| Immediate danger | A crisis card shows your local emergency number and a helpline to call or text. Practice pauses for the rest of the session. |
| Relationship abuse | The app never offers tips for smoothing things over when someone is being controlled, threatened or hurt. It shows specialist services instead. |
Always
- Support and crisis resources are never more than two taps away on practice and coach screens.
- AI characters say they are AI whenever you sincerely ask.
- Characters do not flirt, insult, give medical, legal or financial advice, or play out crisis, abuse or grief scenes.
People and oversight
- When the app stops a scene it keeps a record of the level, category and screen only. The conversation is not copied unless you turned on safety review in Data & privacy.
- Trained reviewers look at safety records every week. A clinical psychologist reviews this protocol every quarter and after any serious incident.
- A serious incident, such as harm linked to the app or a crisis card that failed to show, starts our incident process with fixed response times.
- Before each release the safety checks are tested against a labelled set of messages and a red-team set of adversarial conversations.
